DERIVA MUSSOL

Deriva Mussol is an artistic collective and cultural association based in Vic, active since 2012, formed by Eva Marichalar-Freixa, Jordi Lafon, Montsita Rierola, and Sebastià Masramon. From their respective careers in visual arts, performing arts, and education, an interest in walking and drifting emerged as ways of exploring possibilities for creation and learning in contemporary contexts. We like to generate actions and share open, permeable, and moving spaces. As members of the Projecte Viver d'ACVIC Centre d'Arts Contemporànies we develop projects of artistic investigation and community participation, with a clear educational and territorial vocation.

EXPERIENCING THE CITY

Walking consciously and attentively lets us to recognise our surroundings. The details in every moment shape a narrative which unfolds from movement and stillness. To experience the city is to cross it, and being part of it with its streets and squares, its margins, open spaces, and corners, but also, to observe it, and to feel it in its moments of rest, a necessary interludes to help us to understand how everything happens. At this point, we refer to two publications by Francesco Careri, one is Pasear, detenerse, and the other is Hospedar/se. In both books the ideas of movement and stillness come together in such a way that the two conditions, apparently opposed, interact to give meaning to the other. To verify this in practice and to explore the vicissitudes of these conditions, we would like to invite you to share two separate actions: 1_Spending the day beside a bench. and 2_Walking the perimeter of Vic.

The first action, Spending the day beside a bench, took place on Saturday, July 19.

The action Walking the perimeter of Vic will take place on September 13th, 2025, starting at 8 a.m.
It will leave from ACVIC and the walk can last between 8 and 10 hours.

There is a place where the city ends. The streets end and nature begins, or perhaps the industrial estates, or another city. How far does our city, our neighborhood reach? What is there on the border? Allotments? Industrial buildings? Highways? Streets? Who decides where the city ends or begins? Since 2014 we have walked the perimeters of eleven Catalan cities. It has been our city, Vic, that has led us to experience more intensely the vulnerability of what we understand as limits. We have walked its perimeter three times, in an exercise that until now we have considered incomplete. For this reason we insist, this year we propose to return again in a gesture of rewriting. It will be on Saturday, September 13, 2025. We will start very early, at 8 in the morning from ACVIC. We will walk with a spirit of listening and drifting without being dependent on any clock. The run can last between 8 and 10 hours. Participants will be able to withdraw at the time they wish. It will be good to come well equipped to improvise and bring enough water and food. The activity is free and you only need to register with ACVIC.
