Workshop for teachers with the recognition of the Department of Education

APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY

Generative artificial intelligence tools are rapidly being integrated into all areas of society including education. They are already used, formally or informally, by both teachers and students, and everything indicates that their use will continue to grow in the coming years.

Faced with this new scenario, many questions arise:
How might AI affect our teaching practice? How can we take advantage of its potential in critical and creative ways? How should we adapt our activities, evaluation criteria, and roles as educators?

This course offers a space to explore all these questions through practical action. Each session will be based upon exercises which will give participants a chance to try out generative AI tools first-hand and to reflect upon their uses and implications in real educational contexts.

We will tackle questions such as:

• How is our role as teachers changing?
• What new skills will we need in order to guide the use of AI in the classroom?
• How might critical and creative use of these technologies by students be encouraged?
• What impacts might AI have on student motivation, autonomy or dependence?
• How may activities, methodologies and assessment change?

In addition, we will share references, guides, and examples of good practices from various institutions, and we will discuss the ethical and pedagogical dilemmas that this transformation entails.

The course will culminate in a proposal for direct application; each participant will redesign an activity or teaching guide of their own incorporating the use of AI.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

• to reach an understanding of the current landscape of generative AI and its applications in education.
• to achieve a practical reflection upon the challenges and opportunities of AI and its use in the classroom.
• to discover guides, frameworks, and recommendations from educational institutions.
• to Promote critical thinking and creativity with the educational use of AI.
• to redesign an activity or teaching guide incorporating AI as a pedagogical tool.
