SHAPING ABSENCE
Reflections upon the exhibition

Saturday 19.09.26
12 p.m. – 13.30 p.m.

A conversation between Maria Permanyer, curator and artist of the ESCOLLIR L’AMOR exhibition, and Noemí Morral, multidisciplinary creator after a process of grieving.

Free activity. Open to all members of the public. No prior registration required.

The conversation will explore the possibilities of creation as a way to move through absence, and to approach what is sometimes difficult to put into words. Words, images, texts, poems, or songs will serve as a starting point in a discussion about the need to create which often arises in the face of grief; expressing that which seems inexpressible, giving shape to what we feel and, perhaps, finding a way to relate to pain, and also to relate to that which is no longer there.

In conversation, the two guests will share experiences and questions, and  will discuss how art can support us in our grieving processes. What might happen if such an intimate experience were to become visible, and touch other people? What is transformed when we share pain? A reflection upon creation as a space of memory, accompaniment, and transition, and a reflection upon the possibility of finding, in art, a new way of inhabiting absence.

About the activity

This activity is free. Everyone can take part. You do not need to sign up before the activity.

The conversation will explore how creating art can help us live with someone’s absence. It will also explore how art can help us talk about things that are sometimes difficult to put into words.

The conversation will start with words, images, texts, poems or songs. The guests will talk about why people may want to create art when they are grieving.

They will also talk about how art can help us express feelings that are hard to explain. Art can give shape to what we feel. It may also help us live with pain and with the absence of someone who is no longer here.

The guests will share their experiences and questions. They will talk about how art can support people who are grieving.

They will ask: What can happen when we share a very personal experience with other people? What changes when we share our pain?

They will also talk about how art can help us remember someone, support each other and move through grief. They will explore how art may help us find a new way to live with someone’s absence.
